Pool plaster repair information
There are various pool surface issues that over time will come into play when having a swimming pool or spa. You may encounter rust spots occurring in various areas of the pools surface. These rust spots are caused by moisture that has reacted with the re bar that is used to form the pool or spa structure. When the water starts to rust the re bar it will normally pop up in the most affected area. When it becomes worse, the rust will follow the path of the re bar causing multiple rust spots to occur in line as the water moves below the surface.
There are also pool surface repairs that consist of pool plaster cracks. These cracks are normally caused by shifting or settling of the swimming pool or spas structure. When this happens, you may experience a slight hairline crack all the way up to a major structural crack. Depending on the severity is what determines the scope and the way we make the repairs. Small hairline cracks will not normally cause water leaks though the larger pool plaster cracks will usually cause water loss. When this happens the pool surface repair should be made right away. That is so you do not incur any further damage to the swimming pool or spa due to soil erosion or excessive water loss causing your pool equipment to have problems.
Pool plaster repair process
Pool rust repair explained
With any pool rust repairs, the process is the same. We will first cut out the affected area of plaster and concrete. We will then chip out the remaining concrete around the re bar so that we can remove the rusted piece or pieces. Once removed, we will seal the re bar that was damaged and refill the area with a rapid setting concrete. after the concrete has cured, we will mix a batch of pool plaster in the color of the pools surface. Once we have the color the way we want, we will fill in the affected area and float it back to a smooth finish. Not always will the patch match the existing pool finish due to it’s age and chemical wear and tear. We do everything we can to blend the patch to the existing pool surfaces. This same process for pool rust repair is repeated for any additional rust spots.
Pool plaster cracks explained
Depending on the severity of the pool plaster repair will determine the way it is repaired. A small pool plaster crack is is usually angle cut open so that the repair will make a solid bond. Once we remove all of the bad material, there are two ways for making the repairs. One way is to inject it with a two part resin. If needed we will cut the area open and repair similar to that of a pool rust repair. With the larger pool plaster cracks, we need to thoroughly inspect how much damage there is. If not severe, we will cut out the crack and repair the concrete and float a new pool plaster patch. If it is severe, we will possibly need to reinforce the structural stability of the swimming pool or spa. This is to prevent the plaster crack from re-opening.
No matter how severe the pool plaster repair, our trained technicians are skilled at determining what is needed so that the repairs are made correctly the first time. We are also able to handle other various types of pool surface repair problems including pebble pool repairs and other aggregate pool finishes.
